QITA – Quality development in bi-/multilingual kindergartens

QITA – Quality development in bi-/multilingual kindergartens

The demand for early multilingual education is growing. Therefore, the number of bi- and multilingual kindergartens has multiplied in recent years. However, there is a lack of professional support: currently, there is neither a practically oriented manual for bi- and multilingual kindergartens nor sufficiently systematic further training, coaching or mentoring programmes. This is exactly where QITA comes in: scientists and experts from practice jointly develop a criteria manual, selected pilot kindergartens, test it in every day kindergarten work and give feedback to the authors. The kindergartens cover a wide range of languages, including English, Turkish, French and Arabic as second languages. Following the immersion approach, in these programmes children learn a new language just as intuitively as they learn their mother tongue. Within the framework of QITA, the participating kindergartens are accompanied in a process-oriented manner and supported in reflecting on and further developing their work.
